Wakesurfing is one of the easiest and most beginner-friendly board sports to learn. You ride a continuous wave created by the boat (no paddling required), at slower speeds, with soft water falls and no bindings on your feet, making it far less intimidating than wakeboarding or traditional surfing. Most first-time riders are able to stand up the first or second time they try, and often surf freely without the rope soon after that. With stable beginner boards and simple coaching tips, guests of all fitness levels, typically ages 12 and up, can feel confident, successful, and have fun almost immediately.
Wakesurfing is generally safe for a wide range of ages, but it’s not recommended for very young children. Because wakesurfing is done at slower speeds (10–12 mph), without bindings on your feet, and with soft, controlled falls into the water, it’s considered one of the safer tow sports. At Wakehouse, we typically recommend it for ages 12 and up, depending on comfort level, swimming ability, and parental discretion. With proper coaching, a USCG-licensed captain, and safety gear (life jackets, spotters, and a controlled wave), wakesurfing is a safe and confidence-building activity for most teens and adults.
Not at all, participation is completely optional. While wakesurfing is a highlight of the experience, guests are always welcome to simply relax, enjoy the cruise, swim, take photos, play music, or soak in the views. Whether you want to ride every set or just lounge and enjoy the day on the water, the experience is designed to be fun and flexible for everyone in your group.
Yes, food is available for purchase right at the marina from the on-site Fresh Market. If you’d like specific snacks, beverages, or food items arranged in advance, you’re also welcome to reach out to our team. We’re happy to pre-purchase your selections and have everything ready for you at the boat before your charter begins.
We use the “chair position” technique, which is the easiest and most effective way to stand up when wakesurfing. You start in the water as if you’re sitting in a chair: knees bent, feet flat on the board, arms straight, and weight slightly back while holding the rope. As the boat gently pulls you forward, you stay relaxed and let the board rise to the surface, then you slowly stand up by pushing through your legs like you’re standing from a seated position, keeping your chest up and eyes forward. Once you’re balanced in the wave, you can ease off the rope and start surfing freely.
